On Friday 12th January, fresh from her England training camp, Eboni Beckford – Chambers joined the Mintridge team for a trip to Dorset to lead a bronze programme at Dumpton School.
The afternoon began with Eboni sharing her journey with the whole school in a powerful assembly, speaking about her dual career of netball alongside law and the importance that one has for the other. Eboni shared tales of her netball journey including the highlights of the Commonwealth Games and World Championships alongside the tougher times of gruelling training schedules. The students were listening intently and had plenty of fantastic questions to end:
“What countries have you travelled to through netball?”
“Do you ever feel like giving up?”
It was soon time to take to the netball court with the girls for their games session. The juniors went first up followed by the year 6 – 8 girls for an insight, hints and tips from the England superstar. Following ball skills and movement warm ups, each group looked at defensive ideas such as interceptions with a particular focus on the timing of it against your opposition’s pass. Great improvement was seen in both groups and the juniors put it to the test for Sharks v Sailors at the end!
Each of the sessions ended with some prizes, highly sought after autographs and plenty of photograph opportunities! Everyone worked extremely hard for Eboni all afternoon which made her role as a coach so much easier. Well done to all the players.
After a delicious hot chocolate in the staff room, Eboni had a short inset session with the school staff to look at a few ideas for set plays and session plans to end the day in style.
Thank you very much to the Dumpton staff for your wonderful hospitality throughout the afternoon, we had a fantastic time and good luck for the season ahead, we will be following your progress closely.
